| This is my fotopic site set up to celebrate the older, pre deregulation Olympian survivors that still do what they always did best. These buses have been around since 1981 and every one featured here is over 20 years old. During the many years of great service put in by these machines they have formed the backbone of almost all the significant UK fleets. I hope you enjoy this collection of pictures of these now legendary buses. |

First Group; try the Torpoint routes in Plymouth for the 3 (all ex Eastern National) ECW machines, an ever diminishing mixed bag of old Olympians can be found in Cornwall but passenger mileage in the winter is limited. A small number of old Roe and ECW bodied Olympians can be found in Weymouth and five ex Crosville ECWs remain in service in Chester.
Of the former municipals just Blackpool retain Olympians in any quantity and these don't generally work passenger operations outside the peak summer months.
This leaves us with the independant operators; Shamrock (Poole) operate the occasional old Olympian on their various local service routes. Red Kite operate some ECW bodied Olympians on their Leighton Buzzard local routes, A-Bus in Bristol have six ex Scottish Bus Group examples working on the 57. Notts and Derby quite often deploy one or two of their ECW veterans on the 17 or the 73 in Derby and Merseypride have a small selection of ECW bodies which can be found on the 82B Liverpool to Widnes. McKindless use some ex Tyne and Wear Alexander bodies on their services around Glasgow and Lanarkshire.
Literally hundreds of operators exist which operate Olympians mainly on schools runs but with just one or two peak hour and supermarket/bingo contracts which can see pre-deregulation Olympians in service.
Open top sightseeing and seaside operations (generally seasonal) in the following towns and cities employ some hertiage Olympians on their routes; Stirling, Whitby, York, Blackpool, Manchester, Llandudno, Chester, Birmingham and Leicestershire.
I'm sure I've missed loads of prime examples of old Olympian activity in this quick summary but I'll update this section occasionally!!
