Leyland Olympian Gold - A collection of the very best veteran Leyland Olympians.
**UPDATE 25/10/2009** The preserved Olympians in the limelight- West Yorkshire PTE 5504 and 5507 and West Yorkshire Road Car 3835 have new images in their relevant collections. Other recent additions can be found in the NBC collections under the following headings; Crosville (DOG148 and DOG149), Ribble (2154, 2155 and 2162), Midland Red (South 911), United Auto (220 and 257), Trent (404 and 410) and Yorkshire Traction (654 and 658). Also look in the London Transport Pt 1 collection (L50 and L118). If you are a fan of Leyland Olympians then this is the site for you. I've collected together pictures of the pre-deregulation survivors and preserved early Olympians for your enjoyment here. I've sorted all of the images by their original operator, so regardless of where the bus ended up working you can easily find buses new to your part of the country. Every single Olympian shown on this site is over twenty years old and this site is a unique record of the type using images taken across the entire country. Some of these wonderful buses are now happily in preservation and I've included some shots of these and links to preservation websites where applicable. For more shots of early Leyland Olympians down the years follow the various links shown in the box on the front page, the "worth a look" links are generally to vast photo collections with mixture of vehicles.

    Welcome
This is my fotopic site set up to celebrate the older, pre deregulation Olympian survivors that still do what they always did best. These buses have been around since 1981 and every one featured here is over 20 years old. During the many years of great service put in by these machines they have formed the backbone of almost all the significant UK fleets. I hope you enjoy this collection of pictures of these now legendary buses.

4510 D510PPU is unfortunatly now operated by Tony Glew, Colchester; a vehicle of this status deserves a home that enthusiasts of old Olympians or former Eastern National vehicles could occasionally enjoy the sight and sound of this venerable machine. It is captured here in happier times with previous operator Flagfinders of Braintree. The ECW Olympian coach is re-registered PLZ2876 and is seen on Westminster Bridge with the BA London Eye in the background.

Where do I look for these old Olympians?
This info was last updated on 15/05/2009.
First Group; try the Torpoint routes in Plymouth for the 3 (all ex Eastern National) ECW machines, an ever diminishing mixed bag of old Olympians can be found in Cornwall but passenger mileage in the winter is limited. A small number of old Roe and ECW bodied Olympians can be found in Weymouth and five ex Crosville ECWs remain in service in Chester.
Of the former municipals just Blackpool retain Olympians in any quantity and these don't generally work passenger operations outside the peak summer months.

This leaves us with the independant operators; Shamrock (Poole) operate the occasional old Olympian on their various local service routes. Red Kite operate some ECW bodied Olympians on their Leighton Buzzard local routes, A-Bus in Bristol have six ex Scottish Bus Group examples working on the 57. Notts and Derby quite often deploy one or two of their ECW veterans on the 17 or the 73 in Derby and Merseypride have a small selection of ECW bodies which can be found on the 82B Liverpool to Widnes. McKindless use some ex Tyne and Wear Alexander bodies on their services around Glasgow and Lanarkshire.
Literally hundreds of operators exist which operate Olympians mainly on schools runs but with just one or two peak hour and supermarket/bingo contracts which can see pre-deregulation Olympians in service.

Open top sightseeing and seaside operations (generally seasonal) in the following towns and cities employ some hertiage Olympians on their routes; Stirling, Whitby, York, Blackpool, Manchester, Llandudno, Chester, Birmingham and Leicestershire.
I'm sure I've missed loads of prime examples of old Olympian activity in this quick summary but I'll update this section occasionally!!
You cannot buy prints or gifts from fotopic using images from this site as none of the money comes to me. Instead you can leave me a message; if you only want one or two images for personal use I'm happy to help, if you want a load of images or have a commercial use for any image I'm happy to take your money!
